How a bursary may be used
The Bursary may be used for conference attendance, the purchase or hire of equipment, fees incurred because of study commitments, short-term assistance with living expenses, or any other purpose that will assist with the completion of the postgraduate qualification. Note that if the bursary is to be used for the purchase of equipment, the equipment must be for the personal possession and use of the applicant, not of her University department. The Bursary must be used within twelve months of the date of the award, i.e. by the end of June 2018.
Selection of winners is based primarily on academic merit, but also on the importance of the purpose for which the bursary will be used to the progress or completion of the degree, on financial need as well as community activities and other interests.
The amount of the bursary will not exceed $2,500 but may be less depending on the requirements of the successful applicant. A Bursary may be shared by two successful applicants. In exceptional circumstances the trustees of The AFUW-SA Inc. Trust Fund reserve the right not to award this bursary.
